Officials say some bottlenecks delayed process, have filed police case too, issue to be resolved within two days
Qazigund, Apr 01 : The inhabitants of Panzath village in Qazigund area of South Kashmir's Kulgam district are reeling under darkness for the last four months as the Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) has miserably failed to install a transformer in the area, thereby making locals suffer.
However, the officials in the department said that some bottlenecks have halted the work in the area, saying that the department has also approached the concerned police station for resolving the issues.
Locals of Ganiepora Panzath told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a 100 KVA transformer was damaged in the village some four months before and later it continued to develop snags soon after it was being installed.
They said that the transformer was getting damaged frequently due to the excessive household connections and the department sanctioned another transformer for the area, adding that the old transformer was given to a section of the locality while the other for the remaining households.
However, they said that only one has been installed four months back while the new one is still awaiting installation.
“The department seems reluctant to hear the pleas of local residents as the process to install the transformer is not being started. We demand the Chief Engineer to intervene into the matter and ensure that the transformer is installed forthwith,” the villagers said.
Assistant Executive Engineer, Qazigund, Mohammad Yousuf told KNO that there are some bottlenecks that have halted the work in the area. “The payment for the work has not been released yet from the Deputy Commissioner’s office while a person has objected to the process of installation,” he said.
He added that as the work continued to get delayed, the department has approached the concerned police station and sought their help in this regard. “The bottleneck has almost been removed and hopefully the work will resume within two days,” he added.
Giving further details, he said that the erection of poles, which are the demands of the locals are not available though, but they are trying to make it available too to ensure that the residents would get adequate electricity in a shortest possible time—(KNO)
